We choiced to book the Hotel Ucraina in Kiev and it was quite OK. Not so cheap but situated in the middle of the city centre of Kiev and with many sites in walking distance and also close to the metrostation.

Hotel Ukraine was clean but little cold. Breakfasts were modest, no buffet, which is normally a standard and bread was not very fresh. Restaurant do not accept pay cards. Too bad there is no fixed internet connection in rooms or wireless. But it was all good staying in Kiev. It was all safe as in other European countries.
