Odessa is a mood. I had read a lot about Odessa before I saw it for the first time. The writers I read must have been mad in love with Odessa, so I loved it from the very beginning. Odessa was born on the edge of the barren land and the vast expanse of the sea. It's a human creation, and before going there a traveller has to create the mood. Otherwise it's difficult to grasp why the famous song goes "Ah, Odessa - the pearl by the sea". One cannot imagine Mediterranean Sea without Naples or Istanbul. Black Sea is impossible without Odessa. Although founded in 18-th century, Odessa seems to be as old as Alexandria in Egypt. The city absorbed the ancient winds and it keeps on absorbing waves of modern nations and cultures. Odessa is a city of a strange southern magic.
